The Soochow Medical Promotion Foundation in Kobe, Japan, said that it has collaborated with Kobe University Hospital to develop a new treatment that uses the patient's own cells to achieve knee cartilage regeneration.
At the end of September, the researchers collected trace cartilage tissue from the knee of a young woman with knee cartilage injury, and then cultured the chondrocytes contained in a jelly-like gel. After about two weeks of culture, the chondrocytes were coagulated. The glue was transplanted back to the woman's knee and the damaged cartilage was regenerated. The patient is expected to be discharged after receiving rehabilitation for about 1 month.
The Center for Advanced Medical Rehabilitation pointed out that when cartilage is damaged, the past practice is usually to cut the cartilage in other parts to repair or extract stem cells from the bone marrow for treatment, but these treatments are limited to trauma within 4 square centimeters, and new treatments The treatment range has been expanded to 9 square centimeters while reducing the burden on the patient's body.
The new method is mainly used to treat cartilage damage caused by traffic accidents and sports.
