A court in Wuwei City, Gansu Province entrusted Xinjiang Zhenguanda Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd. to inspect two corn seeds, namely Ganyu No. 8 and Lianke No. 8 corn seeds, whether they met the seed quality standards. After the company accepted the entrustment, on 29th 21st, the appraiser Gao Shengliang and Wen Jiangrong were assigned to form an appraisal team to appraise the corn seed samples sent by the entrusting party.
Agronomist Wen Jiangrong introduced that according to the provisions of GB/T3543.6-1995 "Crop Seed Inspection Regulations-Moisture Determination", we carried out moisture testing on the samples submitted by the entrusting party, using the 1-hour high temperature drying method, and the moisture results were : 9.2% of Ganyu No. 8 and 9.7% of Lianke No. 8.
According to GB/T3543.3-1995 "Crop Seed Inspection Regulations-Clarity Analysis", we conducted a cleanliness test on the samples submitted by the client for inspection. The whole sample method was used for the test. The cleanliness result is: Ganyu No. 8 99.7%, Lianke No. 8 99.8%.
According to GB/T3543.4-1995 "Crop Seed Inspection Regulations-Germination Test", we conducted a germination test on the samples sent by the client. There are 4 repetitions for each sample, each with 100 repetitions. The test uses a sand bed with a constant temperature of 25°C, and the bed placement date is September 22. The 4th and 5th day of the experiment was the peak period of germination. The germination cycle ended on September 29. The germination cycle was 7 days. The results of the germination rate were: Ganyu No. 8 69% and Lianke No. 8 92%.
According to NY/T449-2001 "Corn Seed Purity Salt-soluble Protein Electrophoresis Identification Method", we have tested the purity of the samples submitted by the entrusting party. The number of tested particles per sample is 160, and the purity test result is Ganyu 8 99.0 %, Lianke No. 8 98.2%.
According to the agronomist Wen Jiangrong, according to the quality standards of corn seeds in GB 4404.1-2008 "Food Crops Seeds Part 1 Cereals", the quality of corn hybrids for field use should meet: the moisture content should not be higher than 13.0%. The clarity is not less than 99.0%, the germination rate is not less than 85%, and the purity is not less than 96.0%. The moisture, clarity, germination rate and purity of the Lianke No. 8 corn seed sample submitted by the entrusting party for inspection meet the standard requirements of GB 4404.1-2008; while the moisture, clarity and purity of the Ganyu No. 8 corn seed sample meet the GB 4404.1 -2008 standard requirements, but the germination rate is 69%, which does not meet the standard requirements of GB 4404.1-2008.
Gao Shengliang, a senior agronomist, said that when there is a problem with the seed quality of the seeds used by farmers, the farmers should first explain the situation to the seed seller, and negotiate to solve the problem. If the negotiation cannot be resolved, the local seed management agency will mediate. If the mediation fails, they can go to arbitration. The agency applies for inspection or directly file a lawsuit with the people’s court.
