Research groups at the Showa University's Jiangdong Toyosu Hospital have announced that they have developed a new method that will require only one drop of blood to diagnose cancer.
This method mainly judges whether or not cancer is caused by capturing light emitted from cancer-related substances in the blood. The method is easy to operate, requires only one drop of blood, and results in 3 minutes. The research team is ready to implement clinical applications within one year.
In the early stages of cancer, because the tumor is small, it is difficult to find it when using images for examination. In 2013, the research team developed a test method in which blood was attached to a special metal chip developed by MY.TECH to collect nucleosomes that were dissolved in the bloodstream when the cancer cells were attacked by the immune system, and then The laser is irradiated, and it is judged whether or not there is cancer based on the detected amount.
Since then, the research team has explored a more simple method, attaching blood to 20 patients with cancer or benign tumors on a metal chip, and then irradiating with ultraviolet light and observing with a fluorescence microscope, it is found that patients with a large amount of nucleus have blood. However, patients with benign tumors do not glow. In this way, the researchers finally accurately identified cancer patients in these 20 people.
In the experiment, blood of patients with pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, and colorectal cancer has been confirmed to emit light. Since corpuscles are also contained in body fluids other than blood, the research team is ready to continue research to determine whether they have lung cancer and bladder cancer through sputum and urine.
